Back to School: Rooted and Ready
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.” — Jeremiah 17:7–8 “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught.” — Colossians 2:7
The start of a new school year often brings a mix of emotions—excitement, anxiety, anticipation, and sometimes even dread. New teachers, new classmates, new expectations. But beneath all the surface-level changes lies a deeper invitation: to be rooted in Christ.
Just as trees draw strength from unseen roots, we are called to anchor ourselves in God’s Word and presence. When we’re spiritually rooted, we can withstand the pressures of performance, peer dynamics, and uncertainty. We can grow—not just in knowledge, but in wisdom, compassion, and resilience.
This season isn’t just about sharpening pencils and organizing binders—it’s about preparing hearts. Whether you’re a student walking into a classroom, a parent packing lunches, or a teacher preparing lesson plans, God is with you. He’s not just in the sanctuary—He’s in the school hallway, the cafeteria, the locker room, and the quiet moments of study.
Themes for the Journey
Identity in Christ: In a world that often defines worth by grades, popularity, or performance, scripture reminds us that our identity is secure in Christ. (Ephesians 2:10).
Wisdom over Knowledge: Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom is supreme - therefore get wisdom.” Academic success is valuable, but spiritual wisdom is eternal. Let this year be one where we seek understanding that transforms the heart.
Courage in the Unknown: Joshua 1:9 calls us to be strong and courageous, not because we have all the answers, but because God goes before us. Every new challenge is an opportunity to trust Him more deeply.
Kindness as Witness: In classrooms and lunchrooms, kindness is a powerful testimony. (Matthew 5:16).
Prayer of Commissioning
Lord, as we step into this new school year, we ask for Your presence to go before us. Root us in Your truth, anchor us in Your love, and guide us with Your wisdom. For every student, may they know they are deeply loved and divinely purposed. For every teacher, may they be strengthened with patience, creativity, and grace. For every parent, may they be filled with peace and trust in Your care. Let our schools be places of safety, growth, and light. And may we, as Your people, reflect Your glory in every hallway, classroom, and conversation.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Presbyterian Women
The Presbyterian Women’s Circle will meet on Thursday, September 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Carol Williams will introduce the new study, "Finding Resilience, Joy and Our Identity in Jesus Christ", written by Rhashell D. Hunter. Lana Massengale and Maggie Mossler will provide refreshments. All women are invited to attend for a great time of fellowship and Bible study. Circle meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of the month, except for July and August. On Wednesday, Sept. 24th, the PW will host the Wed. Night Fellowship meal. We will serve a "Salad Supper" which will include a variety of salads, crackers and desserts. Please sign up on the sheet provided on the kitchen counter to bring a salad to share.

Received some general information from the Pastor Nominating Committee and heard that they will meet soon
Approved a bid to update the church men’s room
Noted that the south ramp flower bed will be cleaned up
Heard a great report about this year’s VBS Drama Camp
Offered prayers for Lee Archer who is on hospice care
Noted that Wednesday suppers will begin with a Fish Fry on September 10; Presbyterian Women will host a salad supper on September 24
Heard about the goody bags that were put together for new teachers
Noted the nice ad for our church in the new county map
Heard that Courtney Caughey is interested in the Nursery position, and she will be trying it out the next few Sundays
The Peace and Global Witness Special Offering will be taken October 5, which is World Communion Sunday
Discussed providing church security information to the congregation during the informal August 31 service
Noted the deaths of Everett McAulay, June 17; Patti Huehn, June 26; and Margie Bledsoe, July 10
