Freedom Worth Celebrating
As fireworks light up our skies and we celebrate the gift of freedom this July, it’s a perfect time to reflect on a deeper kind of freedom - the freedom we find in Christ.
Galatians 5:1 declares, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” Not freedom to do whatever we want, but freedom from the chains that once held us - fear, guilt, shame, and the weight of trying to earn God’s love. In Jesus, we are freed to live boldly, to love abundantly, and to follow Him fully.
On July 4, we celebrate the birth of a nation - one founded on the bold idea that all people are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights, including liberty. Fireworks, parades, and patriotic songs remind us of the cost of that freedom and the courage it took to secure it.
But as believers, we celebrate another kind of freedom - one that no government can grant and no enemy can take away. Through Christ, we are set free from sin, shame, and spiritual death. This freedom wasn’t won on a battlefield, but on a cross. And it, too, came at a great cost.
Religious freedom bridges these two worlds. In the United States, we are blessed to worship openly, to speak the name of Jesus without fear. That’s a privilege many around the world still long for. But with that privilege comes responsibility - not just to protect our rights, but to live out our faith boldly, lovingly, and truthfully.
So this Independence Day, let’s give thanks for both kinds of freedom. Let’s honor those who fought for our nation’s liberty - and the Savior who died for our eternal liberty. And let’s use our freedom not just to celebrate, but to serve, to speak truth, and to shine light in a world that desperately needs it.
Let July be a season of rekindled devotion. Just as we celebrate the birth of our nation with joy and gratitude, may we celebrate the new life we’ve been given in Christ. Let’s be a church that not only sings about freedom on Sunday but lives it out all week long - showing the world what it truly means to follow a Savior who sets hearts free.
Presbyterian Women
Our Presbyterian Women will not meet in July. The first meeting of the new study year will TENTATIVELY be held on Thursday, August 14. Study books will be available. Details for this luncheon meeting will follow. An area-wide fall gathering of the Corpus Christi Cluster of Presbyterian Women will be held in Corpus Christi at El Divino Salvador Presbyterian Church August 16 at 9:30 AM. All women are invited to join in the fun, fellowship, Bible study, and worship (and good food, of course!)

Noted the Sacrament of Baptism for Quinn Davis Garza, infant daughter of Marty and Sarah Garza, on June 1.
Approved funding for upgrading the men’s bathroom in the church
Discussed Vacation Bible School – July 7-10 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the First Christian Church
Planned to offer a New Teacher lunch again during their InService the end of July
Noted our $333.00 gift for the Pentecost Offering – 40% stays here for programs we want to support
Noted that Pastor Taylor, Pastor Circelli, CRE Tiner, and Pastor Roemer will continue to fill the pulpit through the summer
Decided not to have a Stated Session meeting in July; the next Stated Session meeting will be Tuesday, August 12 at 5:00 pm
Outreach Project
We will be providing lunch for the New Teacher Inservice at the beginning of the next school year. This project has been successful in past years because of all the excellent help we’ve had with food preparation, putting plates together on that day, and delivery. Please be thinking of ways you might be able to help with this project.
